N Scheme Syllabus - Communication Skill Practical Experiment 2 (Listening Skill)

a) Listen to the following short story and answer the questions:


Questions:

  1. What is the name of the King?
  2. What does the word “commotion” mean?
  3. Who destroyed the fields in the village?
  4. Why was a cow given to each family?
  5.  What do you mean by the phrase “dumb idea”?
  6. What did Tanali Raman give to the cat when it became plump?
  7. Why did the king give a gift to Tenali Raman?
  8. Who used the milk given to Raman’s family?
  9. What shows Tenali Raman a wise one?
  10. How did the king  find out the reason for Raman’s cat not drinking milk?

Answers:

  1. The name of the king is Krishna devaraya.
  2. Commotion means disturbed or agitated movements.
  3. The rats destroyed the fields in the village.
  4. To feed the cat given to each family, the king offered a cow along with the cat.
  5. Dumb idea means “stupid idea”.
  6. Tanali Raman gave very hot milk to the cat when it became plump.
  7. Tenali Raman explained that the king should take care of people, not cats. So milk should be given to people, not to cats. Secondly, only hungry cats will hunt for rats.
  8. Raman used the milk for his family and for preparing milk sweets and food.
  9. The way Tenali Raman escapes from punishment and gets a gift proves him a wise one.
  10. The king examined the lean cat and found blisters in its tongue. Thus he found out the reason.
(Note: The teacher should not show the transcript to the students at the time of exam.

Students can write any five questions and answers in the record note)

b) Listen to the following short story and answer the questions:


Questions:

  1. When did the pandit come to Akbar’s court?
  2. What are the two options given by the pandit?
  3. Why did Birbal choose the single difficult question?
  4. What is the question asked by the pandit?
  5. How did Birbal defeat the pandit?

Answers:

  1. The pandit came in the evening when Akbar was to wind up his day’s official work.
  2. Hundred easy questions and a single difficult question were the two options given by the pandit.
  3. Birbal was wise and the emperor was also not in a mood to sit through 100 questions. So he chose this option.
  4. “which came first – the hen or the egg?” is the question asked by the pandit.
  5. Birbal gave a wittly reply that he had agreed to answer only one question.
